Amy Burt
Amy Burt is a hand embroidery artist and tutor based in St Leonards on Sea, East Sussex, and the founder of Bus Stop Studios.
Amy was introduced to hand embroidery by her Granny at the age of five. While living in Berlin, Germany (2007–2013), she rediscovered her love of making and began designing and selling handmade leather craft.
In 2014, Amy returned to the UK and was accepted onto the Royal School of Needlework’s Future Tutors Programme at Hampton Court Palace. She graduated with Merit in 2017 and now works as a full-time embroiderer.
Amy has taught on the Royal School of Needlework’s Degree in Hand Embroidery as a Technical Stitch Tutor since 2018. She also teaches online for the RSN Certificate & Diploma Course and is part of the RSN assessment team. She was a core part of the Royal School of Needlework team who worked on the embroidery for King Charles III’s Coronation.
In 2023, Amy founded Bus Stop Studios, a creative space bringing together a curated shop, a teaching studio, and a small gallery, with a programme of workshops led by local tutors. She teaches weekly and one-off embroidery courses, and regularly teaches workshops around the UK.
Amy worked as a freelance embroiderer in the fashion industry in London, regularly freelancing for Alexander McQueen, and previously spent over four years as a Senior Embroiderer at British haute couture fashion house Ralph & Russo. Her work also included private commissions for collectors and independent fashion designers.
In 2018, Amy’s embroidery The Young Stevie Nicks was selected for the Royal Academy of Arts 250th Summer Exhibition, curated by Grayson Perry RA, and was displayed in the main Yellow Gallery.
